Noah's Surgery - Before & After

Warning....

If you are sensitive, you may wish to skip this section.

There is nothing terribly gory, but it does show Noah's head after surgery.

For a review of what all happened, here is a copy of the updates provided...

Scroll down to see Noah's Photos.

  • 4/3/09 - 9:30pm - Everyone is home after a great meal at Outback.  All are sleeping peacefully, except Noah.  He seems to want to be held, and is throwing quite the fit if we set him down.  Hopefully, he will settle down too. - Good Night.

  • 4/3/09 - 4:19pm - Ok, we are finally out of the closet room they gave us (chairs had to sit outside the room). We have been discharged, picked up Noah's T-Shirt, and are finally home.  Unfortunately, our friends Jannet and Corrine/Chris won't be going home today. We'll keep praying that they will get out soon.  Wow, what a day! Ok, hopefully this weekend I can get up some pictures and update about the rest of the family....

  • 4/3/09 - 7:45am - Well we've been officially moved out of ICU (a semi-private 2 bed) to a dorm style 5 bed room with 3 grumpy Nurse Ratchets.  Oh- quick update, they just decided we need to move to the SMALL corner section of the room from the normal sized section.  I think I'm getting grumpy.

  • 4/2/09 - 11:00pm - Calling it a night.  Noah got really mad at the IV lady tonight, gave her what for!  He will be moving tonight from ICU and may be discharged as early as tomorrow.  If you are on myspace or facebook, look Jonathan up.  These long days at the hospital have provided time to setup pages on both.

  • 4/2/09 - 4:00pm - Noah has had a challenging afternoon.  Several blood test numbers have been slightly off, and as such he will likely be in ICU one more night.  Thank you for your continued prayers.  On a happy note, we have 2 friends with kids in the same unit as us, so it definitely helps.

  • 4/2/09 - 7:30am - Noah looks very good this morning, and demanded his usual feedings from the nurses at 2&5a.  He has flirted with his nurses all night.  Surgeons PAs came around and were very pleased with his progress.

  • 4/1/09 - 5:00pm - Noah is now in ICU.  While in recovery he ran into some complications.  When they gave him the morphine he decided to hold his breath which of course set off all alarms.  They had to give him an additional drug to counteract the effects of the morphine.  Therefore instead of one hour in recovery he spent 3.  They called us to go with him up to ICU and he was crying uncontrollably in pain because he had not yet had any pain medication because of the reaction.  Finally in the room  and settled he got the pain medication and is now sleeping peacefully.  His head has stitches from one ear zigzag across the head to the other ear.  It kind of looks like the stitching on a baseball.  His head is swollen but honestly the shape already looks a hundred times better.  The surgeon stopped by just now and his happy with his status.  More information and pictures to follow.

  • 4/1/09 - 1:35pm - Noah is still in recovery, and we should finally get to see him by 2ish.  More details to come.

  • 4/1/09 - 11:30am - Noah's surgery is over, and Dr. says he did well and is stable.  We should get to see him within the hour.  More details to follow.

  • 3/27/09 - Just an update.  Noah has been diagnosed with Cranial Synostenosis.  Basically, his soft spots fused before his brain finished growing.  He will be going into surgery 4/1/09, and they will remove several inches of skull.  Please pray for him...I'll try to update the website with pics soon.

  • 1/24/09 - Sorry for the delay, things have been really crazy.  Noah ended up back at All Children's due to his Jaundice.  He was later discharged, and is now doing well.  Now everyone is home for the first weekend this year.  I'll try to post some photos later this week of Noah, and also some fun Emma experienced last weekend.

  • 1/2/09 - Baby Noah made it home today at 3:00pm.  All is finally well.

  • 1/1/09 - HAPPY New Year.  Noah didn't come home today, but should be coming home tomorrow afternoon.  As promised, we have PICTURES!  See the 12/31 Photo Gallery.  See 12/31 below for his health status, and 12/28 for his birth statistics.

  • 12/31/08 - Rebecca is home, while Noah is still at Bayfront.  The last 48 hours have been quite trying.  For those who may have heard some of the diagnosis and prognosis that have been being told to us, let me bring everyone up to date...

    1> Craniosynostosis - NEGATIVE
    2> Hemophyilia - NEGATIVE
    3> Heart Murmur - TRUE
4> Heart Defect - TRUE (He has 3 defects which he is said to grow out of in 6 months with no lasting effects).
5> Swelling in the skull - TRUE (We believe this to be a result of delivery)
6> Bruising of the skull - TRUE (Same as above)
7> Jaundice - TRUE (As a result of the natural reabsorbing of blood and fluid in his head.)
8> Infection - TRUE (As a result of his fast delivery, the normal Antibiotics were not able to be administered)

Noah is spending his New Years Eve under the lights undergoing photo therapy.  They will check his blood at 3am and 3pm, and as long as he is no longer Jaundice, he will be coming home on New Years Day.
So at this point, unless something else shows up, we aren't aware of any lasting issues - Thank you Jesus!

  • 12/30/08 - Rebecca will be coming home today.  Unfortunately, Noah won't be able to come home just yet.  Please continue to pray for Noah, as the Doctors have some serious concerns.  At this time we are not sure if he will be staying at Bayfront or headed over to All Children's.

  • 12/29/08 - Sorry for the delay in getting additional photos up.  There has been some concern about Noah, and so wanted to bring everyone up to date.  There were some complications during delivery.  Also, one of the routine blood tests showed he has an infection.  It looks like he may be staying a few extra days, so be sure to pray for Noah.  Also, there was concerns about Noah having Craniosynostosis (formerly referred to as Cranial Stenosis) but X-Rays appear to confirming this is NOT the case.  (Rebecca had Cranial Stenosis, and was the first successful surgery curing it).  More to come, tomorrow.

  • 12/28/08 - Announcing the arrival of Noah Andrew Sullivan born at 7:39 am today, and weighing in at 6 pounds 6.2 ounces.  He measures 20 3/4 inches.  More picture will be coming soon, but for now, here is a camera phone shot...
